1. Can you tell us a bit about your journey and how you got into the field of information systems?

Okechukwu: “Certainly. My journey into the field of information systems began in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, where I developed a deep interest in technology and data from a young age. I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Abia State University, which provided me with a strong foundation in finance and an understanding of the importance of data in business operations. However, my passion for technology and the growing importance of data management in the modern business landscape inspired me to embark on certification programs in database administration right after my bachelor’s degree and became an Oracle Database Administration Certified professional in 2010, which ushered me into my first role as an Oracle DBA and Faculty member. This combination of finance and technology fueled my interest in Information Systems. After gaining industry experience in data management for a few years, I decided to further my education with a Master’s degree in Information Systems from the University of Utah, ultimately guiding me to my current position and developing me into a complete Information Systems Professional”

2. What motivates you to continue advancing in the field of information systems and data management?

Okechukwu:  “I’m driven by the transformative power of data and technology. The ability to turn raw data into actionable insights that can drive business decisions and growth is incredibly motivating. I enjoy the constant evolution in this field and the opportunities it presents for innovation. Each new project provides a chance to solve problems, implement solutions, and see the tangible impact of my work on business’ success. The challenge of staying ahead in a fast-paced industry and continuously improving my skills keeps me energized and passionate about advancing in this field.”

3. Could you elaborate on your role and responsibilities at Robert Half as a Professional Consultant?

Okechukwu: “As a Professional Consultant at Robert Half Inc., I am responsible for driving development and implementation of expert technology solutions and execution of data management projects that meet client’s business needs, ensuring data integrity, optimal performance, and security of databases and applications, while collaborating with various teams to develop cohesive systems and deliver high-quality results leading to customer satisfaction. Currently, I’m serving as a Senior SQL Developer at Music Reports Inc., a client of Robert Half, where my role spans analyzing requirements, designing databases, writing complex SQL, subprograms, and developing systems that handle the data and functionality of applications, with a strong focus on ensuring performance and protection against vulnerabilities and data breaches. In my role, I work closely with product managers and analysts to understand clients’ unique needs and challenges, and collaborate with front-end developers, QA, ITOps, and DevOps teams, to develop tailored solutions that meet those requirements. My contributions ensure that our clients’ data systems are robust, efficient, and secure, ultimately supporting their business growth and success.”

4. What are some of the most significant projects you have worked on in your career, and what were your contributions?

Okechukwu: “I have worked on several significant projects in my career and have made varying degrees of contributions to the organizations I have worked for. At Music Reports Inc., through Robert Half,  I created subprograms to automate client’s monthly data ingestion process, resulting in a 40% increase in efficiency of the ingestions. Additionally, I collaborated with front end developers to rebuild the client’s on-boarding and file sharing application, which enhanced the client onboarding and file sharing process by 60%, improving user experience and boosting revenue significantly. In my previous roles, I led and completed several notable projects including infrastructure management, cloud database migration, and implementing replication solutions across database systems such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and MySQL. These projects contributed to significant performance improvement, customer satisfaction, and revenue increase, and showcased my ability to deliver impactful solutions.”

This experience allows me to select the most appropriate database technology for each specific project and ensure optimal performance and reliability. Additionally, I am proficient in multi-cloud platforms, such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. This proficiency enables me to design and implement comprehensive solutions that are flexible, scalable, and cost-effective. My experience with these technologies and platforms has equipped me with the skills needed to manage complex data systems and deliver high-quality solutions to meet various business needs.”

6. How do you ensure data security and compliance in your database management practices?

Okechukwu: “Data security and compliance are top priorities in my database management practices. I ensure data protection by employing a combination of technical measures, strict policies, and continuous monitoring. This includes encryption, robust access controls, regular audits, monitoring, and timely application of security patches for both database software and operating systems. I stay current with industry standards and regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, and CCPA to ensure our practices remain compliant. Additionally, I conduct regular training for my team to reinforce best practices in data security and compliance. By taking a proactive and comprehensive approach, I ensure the databases I manage are secure and compliant, safeguarding valuable data assets.”

Humanitarian Awards Global is a prestigious awarding body committed to inspiring the next generation of changemakers through the annual awards ceremony, which aims to recognize, honor, and celebrate leaders, volunteer organizations, NGOs, philanthropists, corporations, and professionals who make remarkable contributions to society. Additionally, my proficiency in multiple cloud platforms and database technologies enables me to create versatile and effective solutions tailored to diverse business needs. My experience working in diverse industries has also given me a broad understanding of different business challenges and how to address them through innovative data management practices. Okechukwu: “In the next few years, I aim to further specialize in data management and cybersecurity. I plan to accomplish this by pursuing a PhD in this field, conducting

I will also seek out challenging projects that allow me to apply and expand my expertise. Additionally, I aspire to take on leadership roles where I can mentor and guide other professionals in the field, sharing my knowledge and experience to support their growth and success. Ultimately, I aim to play a pivotal role in helping organizations leverage data to achieve strategic objectives and drive business value, while ensuring optimal data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance.
