My educational journey started at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, where I earned my Bachelor’s in Computer Science. This foundational knowledge in software programming and system design led me to pursue a Master’s in Operations Research and Production Management at the University of Lagos, and later, a second Master’s in Computer Science and Quantitative Methods from Austin Peay State University, where I deepened my expertise in big data, machine learning, and advanced computing technologies. My education has been a driving force behind my technical and analytical skills, which have shaped my career in software development.”

Your CV mentions a 12-year tenure at Neptune Software Limited. Can you walk us through some of the key projects you worked on during that time and what you learned from them?

Olawumi: “At Neptune Software Limited, I had the privilege of leading the design, development, and deployment of enterprise-level applications, which required me to work cross-functionally with different teams. One of the most impactful projects was developing a financial services platform that streamlined customer transactions using Java, Spring Boot, and Oracle Database. This experience taught me the importance of scalability, performance monitoring, and agile development methodologies. It also enhanced my leadership abilities, as I often had to manage complex projects and ensure that they were delivered on time and within scope.”

In your recent role as a Software Engineering Intern at CG Global Management Solutions, you contributed to the LOCOMeX Platform Project. What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them?

Olawumi: “Working on the LOCOMeX Platform was an exciting challenge because it combined natural language processing, machine learning, and AI-driven innovation. One of the major challenges was ensuring data accuracy and consistency across the platform, especially since we were working with vast amounts of data. I collaborated with data scientists and analysts to implement more efficient data pipeline structures and used AWS to maintain cloud-based infrastructure. Through teamwork and constant problem-solving, we were able to innovate solutions that improved product performance and user experience.”

You’ve worked with multiple programming languages and technologies, including Python, Java, and big data tools like Hadoop and Spark. How do you stay updated with evolving technologies, and which technology excites you the most?

Olawumi: “The tech industry is constantly evolving, and staying updated requires continuous learning. I frequently engage in online courses, attend workshops, and participate in technical communities. Among all the technologies I’ve worked with, I’m most excited by the advancements in AI and machine learning, particularly in natural language processing. AI’s potential to revolutionize industries and solve complex problems is fascinating, and I’m eager to continue exploring this area further in my career.”

Could you describe a time when you faced a major technical issue and how you resolved it?

Olawumi: “One memorable instance was during the deployment of an enterprise application at Neptune Software. We encountered unexpected system performance issues due to database overload. I led the investigation and, after extensive debugging and performance monitoring, we identified bottlenecks in the SQL Server queries. I optimized the database structure and rewrote critical queries, which resulted in a significant performance boost. This experience reinforced my belief in meticulous testing and monitoring as crucial steps in successful software deployment.”

You have experience working on both frontend and backend development. Which do you find more challenging, and how do you approach each?

Olawumi: “Both frontend and backend development come with their own sets of challenges. I find frontend development particularly challenging because it requires balancing aesthetics and functionality while ensuring a seamless user experience. On the backend, the focus is more on data handling, system architecture, and ensuring scalability. I approach both with an analytical mindset—breaking down complex problems, collaborating with designers and developers, and iterating until the solution is both functional and elegant.”

Your CV highlights your proficiency in cloud technologies like AWS and Microsoft Azure. How have these technologies shaped your approach to software development?

Olawumi: “Cloud technologies like AWS and Microsoft Azure have completely transformed how I approach software development, particularly in terms of scalability and data management. With AWS, for instance, I’ve been able to build robust, cloud-based infrastructures that can handle large datasets efficiently and securely. These platforms also allow for quick deployment, testing, and scaling, which is essential in modern software development. Having this experience has made me more adaptable and forward-thinking when planning architecture for projects.”

What is the most significant achievement in your career so far, and why does it stand out to you?

Olawumi: “One of my most significant achievements was leading the development of a campus mobile app for Brandenburgische Technische Universität in Cottbus, Germany. It was a complex project that involved both Android and iOS platforms. We faced multiple hurdles, from design challenges to integration issues with the university’s systems. However, the final product was a polished, user-friendly app that significantly improved communication and navigation for students. This project stood out because of the collaborative effort, the technical hurdles we overcame, and the impact it had on the university community.”

Your CV lists numerous technical skills and certifications, such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) and proficiency in databases like SQL and NoSQL. How do you decide which tools or technologies to use for a project?

Olawumi: “When choosing tools or technologies for a project, I always start by analyzing the specific needs and goals of the project. For instance, if I’m dealing with large-scale, unstructured data, I might opt for NoSQL databases like MongoDB. For structured, relational data, SQL databases like Oracle are more suitable.
